Historic Huguenot Street
Drive down to the village and explore Historic Huguenot street for the day.
The seven stone houses and several accompanying structures in the 10-acre National Landmark Historic District were likely built in the early 18th century by Huguenot settlers fleeing discrimination and religious persecution in France and what's now southern Belgium. After negotiating with the Esopus Indians, this small group of Huguenots settled on a flat rise on the banks of the Wallkill River in 1678. The settlers named the site in honor of Die Pfalz, the region of present-day Germany that had provided them temporary refuge before they came to America. Archaeological finds indicate that the immediate area settled by the Huguenots was occupied by Native Americans prior to European contact. The site is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the United States.

OUR 60 ACRE ORCHARD IN WALDEN, NEW YORK IS NESTLED IN THE HEART OF THE HUDSON VALLEY
The Hudson Valley also has a long cider making tradition. Before prohibition, cider apple orchards were common to find in the region. Cider has been made here for more than 200 years! Like many of the orchards in the area, our orchard has a long history. It has been a farm since the 1700s and the first apple trees were planted here around 100 years ago. The Crist Family took ownership of this orchard in 1963 and as leaders in the apple growing industry, grew both culinary and cider apples.
We are committed to bringing traditional cider varieties and lost heirloom varieties back to the United States. As such, certain areas of the orchard are designated for new cider apple plantings and varietal research, in collaboration with local institutions and growers.

Wright's Farm
Wright’s Farm is a six-generation family farm in the heart of the Hudson Valley, New York. The farm is currently run by three generations Theodore Wright (84, 3rd generation), Tammy Boylan (59, 4th generation) and her husband Mike Boylan (64), along with all three of their children (5th generation) Colin (35), Samantha (33), and Mackenzie (29). The farms 6th generation although still quite young (McKenzie 12, Sutton 9, Kolby 8, Riley 7, Dalton 5, Nash 2 Beau 2 and Raighne 1) love to help at the farm, and already value the farming lifestyle.
The original farm was purchased in 1904 by Charles Baker Wright where he started the family dairy farm on 108 acres. Over the years the farm has transitioned from primarily dairy to commercial apple growing by the late 1950’s. The farm is now 453 acres, growing tree fruit, berries, tomatoes, pumpkins, squashes, string beans, and more. In addition to expanding in the field, the farm has grown its retail with a farm stand open year-round, attending farmers market throughout the Hudson Valley and Westchester County, and as of 2018 the 5th generation has opened a farm brewery in the farms old dairy barn.
In the words of Tammy Boylan “farmers are the original recyclers”. Tammy hated to see spoiled fruit be thrown away so she had her Grandmother (Grandma Ann 2 generation) make jams and pies out of the wasted fruit. Fast forward 30 years, now we have to grow fruit specifically for our added value products. We Grow It, We Pick It, We Make It, We Jam It.
Farm life has its challenges, but also brings a lot of joy and opportunity. The Wright Family loves working together and we are always looking toward the future and how to make the farm viable for the family, and community.
