Lynn Hill at Minnewaska Lodge

September 25-27, 2020

Lynn Hill, born in 1963, is a US rock climber regarded as one of the best competitive climbers in the world during the late 1980s and early 1990s. She is famous for the first free ascent of The Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, California. She then repeated the climb the next year in less than 24 hours. She is described as both one of the best female climbers in the world and one of the best climbers of all time. She became a public spokesperson for the sport, for gender equality, and has appeared in numerous TV shows, documentaries (Reel Rock, Valley Uprising, Fine Lines) and is author of Climbing Free: My Life in the Vertical World (2003).

Minnewaska Lodge, Mountain Skills climbing school and Rock and Snow are thrilled to bring you the Lynn Hill Experience. On the weekend of September 25th to 27th, twelve lucky climbers will spend the weekend with Lynn learning what 45 years of rock climbing has taught her. In 1983, Lynn came to climb and guide in the Gunks and she stayed for nearly a decade before leaving for other adventures. We’re stoked to give her a reason to come back and visit.

Our weekend starts on Friday with a meet and greet. Lynn and your guides will be at the Minnewaska lodge to say hello and enjoy some food and drinks. A few special guests will also join us.

Saturday morning will start out with some stretching and yoga, outdoors on the Minnewaska Lodge lawn.  We will head up to the cliff to pre-set ropes and rock climb from 10am until 5pm. Lynn will be giving tips and beta to help facilitate your climbing growth. At the end of the day we will head back to the lodge for dinner and an evening of conversations and a presentation from Lynn. Lynn will present her video called, the Technique Workshop, which covers the fundamentals of climbing on various features from slabs, to vertical faces, corners, aretes, and some of the most overhanging faces imaginable. Lynn also has a slide show of videos and photos from her climbing journey over the past 45 years.

Sunday morning starts again with stretching and yoga before heading up to a different area of the cliff to work on climbing techniques, gear placements, and rescue drills. Our weekend ends around 5pm, back at the lodge to pack up and say goodbye.
